Captain Homer Brown Jones, 89, of Westlake passed away at 5:08 PM on Monday, February 24, 2014 in a Houston care facility.

Born November 6, 1924 in Alpena Pass, AR as the youngest child of Robert Franklin Jones and Lucretia Rebecca Carson Jones. A resident of Houston, TX at the time of his death, Homer was a long time resident of Westlake and Lake Charles, LA.

During World War II, Homer served his country as a member of the Army in the Philippines. After returning to Alpena he met his wife Juanita June Beshears. They were married in Lake Charles, LA on February 18, 1948. Homer was in the Army Reserves and served in Korea during the Korean War. He was awarded 7 bronze stars, one bronze arrowhead, AP theater ribbon, Philippine Liberation ribbon, and Korean service medal.

After completing his military service, he joined the Louisiana State Police rising to the position of Troop D Captain. He retired in 1976. Later he held positions with IPC International, Citadel Security, and Pendleton Detective Agency.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Westlake, a Shriner and a member of the VFW.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his siblings Pauline Estes, Trellamae Denton, Bobby Jones and John Jones.

Homer is survived by his daughter Karen and husband Ron Rials of Houston, son Randy and wife Inga of Houston; grandsons Eric and wife Emily Rials and David and wife Bertha Rials of Houston, grandson Evan Jones of Bartlesville, OK and granddaughter Morganne Jones of Stephenville, TX; 2 great-grandchildren: Eric's children Brandon and Addison; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service. A celebration of Homer's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Wayne McEntire will officiate. Burial will be at Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery.
