"Gift of approximately $1,000,000 to the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts by Ralph Whelan, Minneapolis attorney who died Dec. 26, was disclosed today in admission of his will to probate. Whelan, formerly of Plaza hotel and 90 at the time of his death, stipulated the gift, including stocks and bonds, is not to be turned over to the society until 15 years following death of last survivor of other beneficiaries listed in the will. All securities were placed in trust, to be administered by the First National bank with income to be paid as follows:
Miss Carrie B. Whelan, Highland Park mission, a cousin, to receive $1,500 annually. Mrs. Belle Stewart, Brockport, N.Y., a niece, $3,500 annually. Miss Louise M. Carlin, 2435 First avenue S., former office assistant, $2,500 annually. Miss Grace A. Green, 2154 Dayton avenue, St. Paul, formly a clerk in office, $1,800 annually. George P. Dodge, Fresno, Calif., $1,000 annually.
"Whelan, a bachelor and former member of the law firm of Koon, Whelan, Hempstead and Davis, named as executors Miss Carlin and Charles H. Davis, his former associate.
"Examination of the safety deposit box at First National bank disclosed $963,000 in federal, state and municipal bonds. A second box at Northwestern National bank contained 713 shares of Pillsbury Flour Mills Co., Inc., common stock and 275 shares of Northwest Bancorporation stock.
"Income as stipulated to the five beneficiaries will continue during their lifetime."
