DULUTH, MINN.-(AP)—Mrs. Alma Pattee Washburn, 87, prominent Duluth woman and for many years active in civic, philanthropic and literary circles, died Sunday in a local hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. Washburn was born in Portage, Wis., May 4, 1856, was educated in Stevens Point, Wis., and taught there prior to her marriage to the late Jed L. Washburn in 1882. The early years of their married life was spent in Mankato, Minn., where Mr. Washburn practiced law.

Alma Washburn was born in Wisconsin in 1856. By the time she met her husband Jed Washburn, she had already established a reputation as a prominent figure in education and charity work throughout the state. She was a founder of the Duluth Women’s Club and also served as both state and national president of the Federation of Women’s Clubs.
