Plaque is as reads:

From the valleys of the Rhineland to the Emerald Isles your ancestors came
To the arms of Liberty and across the Great Ocean of Kiwa you made Aotearoa your home

George Hoffman was a descendant from a German family, who came to the palatinate of the Rhineland. The family left the Rhineland in 1709 to settle in County Kerry Ireland, and George was born there in 1832. George was later to marry Fannie Cullen, a native of County Kerry who was fifteen years his junior.
In 1866 George emigrated to America. He and Fannie settled in Hudson, New Hampshire where they were to have three children:

John Onslow born 14 February 1867
William James born 6 July 1869
Sarah Jane born 13 June 1871

In 1873 Fannie died tragically in childbirth at age 26. She was buried with her infant son at the south end, Ford Cemetery in Hudson, New Hampshire. In 1876 George left America with his three surviving children, but after a brief stay in Australia the family moved to New Zealand.
They arrived here in 1881. George was to become one of the original Rauamoa settlers and lived in the district for about twenty years. He then moved to live with his son William James in Te Kuiti and died on 9 August 1916, aged 84 years.

Honoured by your many descendants
