The St Johnsbury Caledonian (St. Johnsbury, Vermont) October 26, 1860 "Notice is hereby given that I have given to my son, Edwin A. Williams, the remainder of his minority, and shall claim none of his earnings nor pay any debts of his contracting after this date, Stephen Williams. Wheelock, Oct. 8, 1860"

Edwin served as a Private in Company K, 11th Regiment, Vermont Volunteers during the Civil War. He mustered in August 13, 1864. On April 2, 1865 he was wounded at Petersburg, and mustered out June 24, 1865. On May 2, 1865, the Green-Mountain Freeman (Montpelier, Vermont) reported that Edwin had been wounded (described as "slight").

On February , 1866, Edwin married Alice M. Blake in Wheelock, Vermont.

"Mr. Williams was a kind and thoughtful husband and father and had the respect and esteem of every one who knew him. He had served the town as grand juror and selectman. He was a member of Damon Lodge, Knights of Pythias."
