A funeral service celebrating the life of Ray Carl Strickland, 84, of Elgin, SC will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Blaney Baptist Church, Elgin, SC, with entombment in Magnolia Cemetery Mausoleum, Charleston, SC. Rev. Dr. Bill Coates, (Sr. Pastor FBC, Gainesville, GA) and Rev. Jeff Grubbs, ( Chaplain, Agape Hospice) will officiate. Music will be provided by Philip Strickland, Worship Arts Pastor, (Eastlake Community Church, Irmo SC) and Ruby Goff, pianist. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff Elgin Chapel.

Ray Carl Strickland, husband of Madge Black Strickland, died Sunday, February 23, 2014. He was the son of the late Bertha Victoria Hinson Strickland and Carl Julian Strickland, of Elgin. Mr. Strickland was employed for 36 years at the DuPont Orlon Plant in Camden, retiring in 1986.

He was past chairman of the Elgin Election Commission and served for 38 years as an Elections Poll Manager for both the Kershaw and Clarendon County Election Commissions. He was a past fire chief of the Blaney Fire Department and a charter member of the Elgin Catfish Stomp. He was a member of Spring Valley Baptist Church in Columbia, SC where he was a member of the Senior Co-ed Sunday School Class.

Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife of 63 years, Madge Black Strickland of Elgin, and his sons Terry Strickland (Cathy) of Greer, Larry Strickland (Julie) of Elgin, Tony Strickland (Lynn) of Elgin, David Strickland (Elliot) of San Antonio, TX and Daniel Strickland (Rebecca) of Blythewood; twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren; sister Nancy Wooten (Lem) of Elgin and brothers, Donald Afon Strickland (Van) of Blythewood, and Tim Strickland (Jeanie) of Denver, NC. Mr. Strickland was predeceased by a brother Beecher Strickland.
