Albert DeShazo, who served four months in the county jail at Logan for forging an order, was released on Thursday. He will now be turned over to the military officers and be tried for deserting the army at the Presidio.
The penalty for regulars who desert at war times is usually death, but his friends think he will not be very severely punished ashe was only a volunteer and had not gone far on the journey consequently was no great expense to Uncle Sam. Several others left the army the same time and from the same place he did, most of whom they captured and one of them were punished very severely. One was sent to the Philippines to serve two years without pay and another got a dishonorable discharge.
