Ygnacio Ynostrosa probably came to California from Chile to work in the gold fields; he was in Placer County by 1860, listed on the federal census with his first wife Manuela and their daughter Coleandra. Later he went to work in the quicksilver mine at New Almaden, where he met and married Eloisa Yturriaga, the daughter of another Chilean miner. They were married at New Almaden on Nov. 2, 1873. Ygnacio and Eloisa were the parents of Ignacio "Nash" Jr., Thomas, Joaquin, Mary (Coronado), Blanche (Padilla) and Michael.

At the end of his life, Ygnacio was a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the Mexican Benefit Society for New Almaden miners for unpaid benefits. His death was reported in a local newspaper in connection with the lawsuit.

Ygnacio's birth date and burial location were written on the back of his photo.
