Jackie N. West, 75, a resident of rural Dongola, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, February 22, 2014, at 8:05 PM at Union County Hospital in Anna, Illinois.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, February 27, 2014, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery near Dongola.
Visitation will be from 5 PM - 8 PM Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
Memorials may be made to "Share and Care" or to the Dongola First Baptist Church Food Pantry program and may be left at the funeral home.

Jackie N. West, 75, a resident of rural Dongola, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, February 22, 2014, at 8:05 PM at Union County Hospital in Anna, Illinois.

Jack was born December 14, 1938 in the White Hill community. He was the son of Joshua & Daisy (Fisher) West.

Jack was united in marriage to Sherrie A. (Gardner) on June 26, 1958 in Elkhart, Indiana. She survives.

In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by: his children – Neil J. (Lois) West of Cypress, IL, Lisa A. (Walt) Zeschke of Dongola, IL, Lora J. (John) Mowery of Millcreek, IL, Roy L. (Christie) West of Cypress, IL, Ray D. "Sparky" (Sue) West of Buncombe, IL, and Lynn A. (Chris) Williams of Dongola, IL; 16 grandchildren Lance West, Terra (Larry) Miller, Rachel Rios, Jill (Larry) Gore, Alicia Zeschke, Christina Mowery, Josh (Natalie) Mixen, Bruce West, Bryan West, Bradley West, Nicole West, Clayton West, Andrew Williams, Jackalyn (Bryan) Cravens, Stephanie (Corey) Zinn, and Nathan Williams; 14 great grandchildren – Ashtyn, Serenity, Eli, Aubree, Jason, Riley, Logan, Laighton, Kiley, Kaitlyn, Daultan, Braston, Skyli, and Jacey; a brother – Langley (Wanda) West of Vienna, IL; 5 sisters – Gail (Terry) Rigby, Luella Thomason, Jane Winterbottom, Joann West all of Tennessee, and Patsy (Frank) Stetter of Illinois; a sister-in-law – Shirley West of Illinois; a brother-in-law – Robert Denton of Arizona; a special friend – Bichnhu Fosse of Creal Springs, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by: a granddaughter –Chastity Dawn Mowery; a great grandson – Cain Silas Williams Jerrell; a sister Sue Denton; and 2 brothers – Bruce West and Gene West.

Jack was a 1957 graduate of Grand Chain High School. He was the first of his graduating class of 12 students to pass away. Jack was employed for several years in the production department of Bunny Bread in Anna. He was then employed by Lindell May Trucking and later Wal-Mart. For 15 years, Jack was employed as an ammunition de-fuser at General Dynamics Ordnance near Marion until his retirement in 2011.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, and gardening. Jack is fondly remembered for sharing the produce from his garden with neighbors,friends, and co-workers. He also enjoyed many types of sporting activities and was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan. Above all, however, Jack cherished his family and loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, February 27, 2014, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. A eulogy will be shared by Bro. Lonnie West. For those who would like to share a story or remembrance of Jack, an opportunity will be provided during the service.

Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery near Dongola. Brother Mark Terbrak will offer the committal prayer. Following the interment, family and friends are invited to a luncheon which will be held at the Bethany Baptist Church near Cypress.

Visitation will be from 5 PM - 8 PM Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
