Death of Fadelly Custer
The funeral of Stewart F. Custer took place at the M. E. Church, Conotton, O., on May 9 1894; age 72 years 2 months and 24 days.
Fadelly Custer is a member of a family widely known, some whose chivalry on the field of battle has gone down in history and others filling stations in life that have immortalized the name and made it famous. The deceased was born in New Rumley, O., February 12, 1822; when he was grown to manhood he chose blacksmithing for an occupation, and being a skilled workman, a good neighbor and an honest man, he was widely known and it's with sadness we chronicle his sudden death.
In company, with his wife he was enjoying a visit with his brother-in-law, Amon Hurlus, at Philadelphia Roads, On Sabbath morning May 6, while at the breakfast table, the Death Angel claimed its victim and spirit of Mr. Custer took its flight to the other world. In 1848 during a revival of religion at the Butterfield schoolhouse he found peace in Jesus by believing; and all these years has been building for eternity, which structure was found in readiness on the morning of his demise. He was twice married and the father of 11 children, six of whom preceded him. He leaves a wife, five children, four brothers, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn.
He was a member of the General Custer Lodge No. 100 Knights of Pythias at Scio, O. He was among the first to join its ranks. He was greatly attached to the order and loved its members with a Pythian love. He was buried with Pythian honors at Perryville, O., where his first wife and deceased children with him are awaiting the coming of the King.
Rev. H. Hudson preached his funeral sermon by his request, using 2nd Samuel 14:14. A large congregation attentively listened with marked attention. The M. E. Conotton choir, assisted by their pastor, Rev. J. W. Stephan, furnished the music and songs, while Rev. LeMasters assisted in the words of comfort to the bereaved.
MY God watch Carefully over us all that when done with earthly things we maybe be permitted to meet our brother in Heaven.
