DARLINGTON – Willie Asbury Dowling, 92, passed away, Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Hospice House. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 25 at Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church directed by Belk Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, 5-7 p.m. February 24 at the funeral home.

Born in Darlington County, Mr. Dowling was the son of the late James Muldrow Dowling and Mary Agnes Yarborough Dowling. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He retired from Dixie Cup after 25 years. He was a member of Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church, where he was Chairman of the Board of Stewards for an extended length of time and was instrumental in organizing the church cemetery. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Iris Clare Price Dowling of the home; his son, Wayne (Pam) Dowling of Mt. Pleasant; his daughters: June (Tommy) Bryant of Darlington and Wanda (Ken) Amick of Irmo; his grandchildren: Kellie (Chris) Flowers, Tom Bryant (Anna), Meg Temple (Tallon), Will Dowling, Heather (Bryan) Lawson and Daniel Amick; great-grandchildren: Bryant, Carrie Price, Kendall, John Wyatt, Connor and Brycen; and his sister, Mattie Lee Browning.

Mr. Dowling was preceded in death by his siblings: Margaret Clayton, Florrie Sansbury, Mamie Tallon and the Reverend James Dowling.
