NC Marriages shows that Rhoda married John A. Ammons on Jan. 15, 1850 in Macon Co., NC

Rhoda's daughter Lou Cresia was 2 yrs. old on the census taken in August 1850. This means that Lou Cresia was about 16 months old at the time her mother married John Ammons. Was John the biological father?

Rhoda CARSON Ammons is often confused with her husband's niece, Rhoda ARMINDA Ammons.

There is evidence which indicates that Rhoda may have had a child out of wedlock with James Jackson Jennings, Sr. Marriage records and death certificate for William Tolvin Jennings list them as his parents. There is no record that Rhoda was ever married to James Jennings.

The obituary for Rhoda's daughter Sarah names her only surviving sibling as half-brother T.V. Jennings of the Otto community. Could this be referring to William Tolvin Jennings who was living in Otto at the time of Sarah's death?

Some sources list his name as William Tolvin Jennings/Ammons. Excerpts (upper right) of the 1870 and 1880 censuses list Tolver Ammons and William Ammons respectively. This boy's age makes him the right age to be William Tolvin Jennings.
