Elder Willie Rice, Age 75, of Pikeville, died Monday, September 15, 1997, at his residence following an extended illness. Born August 1, 1922, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Samuel L. Rice and Lucretia Boyd Rice. He was a retired pipe fitter and a veteran. He was a member of the New Life United Baptist Church at Banner. Surviving him are his wife, Maxie Newsome Rice; a son, Samuel Rice of Burkesville; two stepsons, Orville E. Adkins and Kenis Gene Adkins, both of Pikeville; two daughters, Mary Conn of Dana and Marsha Maynard of Pikeville; three sisters, Olga Allen of Grayson, Sina Blanton of Prestonsburg and Madge Mauk of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 19, at 11 a.m. at the New Life United Baptist Church at Banner, with Albert King, Elbert Howard and Jim Estep officiating. Burial will be made in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.
