Glenn Wesley Bailkey, age 78, of Chetek died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital.
He was born April 5, 1927 in the town of Chetek, the son of Myrtle (Johnson) and Dudley Bailkey. Glenn married Ona Gubrud on September 9, 1950 in Hudson. He served his country in the US Army during World War II until being honorably discharged in 1946. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10331 and joined the American Legion Post 179 in 1947. In his younger years he was a hard working member in both organizations. Glenn and Ona spent several years working on construction in Alaska. They owned and operated Basic Farm Service in Chetek for more than 20 years. Retiring to a farm in the town of Prairie Lake and worked for the township for several years. Glenn enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and woodworking and crafted hundreds of items.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ona; one sister, Yvonne , sisters-in-law; Alvina (Martin) Carlson, Mabel Larsen, Angie Gubrud, Betty Gubrud and Louise Metcalf and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four infant sons, Wesley, Donald, Kim and Larry; two brothers, Merle and Chester (Orpha) Bailkey; brothers-in-laws Gilman Anderson, Arnold Gubrud,, Edward Gubrud ad Victor Larsen.

Interment at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner, Wisconsin. A memorial service was held at the Chetek Veterans of Foreign Wars in Chetek, Wisconsin. Military honors were accorded by the VFW and the American Legion Post 179 of Chetek.
