Sunrise for Mrs. Tommie (Douglas) Harris, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of South Bend, was on July 19, 1943. She was an identical twin, born to Tommie and Lucille Douglas in South Bend, Indiana. Both parents preceded her in death. She was the third of 10 children.

Tommie received her formal education through South Bend Public Schools. She accepted Christ at a young age and was affiliated with various churches and became a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Tommie was a loving and devoted mother and grandma. Some of her favorite things to do was cooking, raising her children, playing Bingo and spending time with the grandchildren.

She served as a cook in the community for over 30 years. Tommie and her twin both worked for Misti's Mug and Muffin for several years. Many years later, after retiring from cooking, she then became involved in the Day Care Grandparents program for REAL Services. Eventually her own health challenges prevented her from being as active as she once was. Tommie was a devout Christian who found great joy and strength in the Lord in attending church service, studying the Bible and sharing God's word with family and friends.

Sunset for Tommie, 70, came on Saturday, February 15, 2014 when she was called home to be with her heavenly father in Hospice of The Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio after a lengthy illness. Her family and friends were by her side.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Lee Ann Smith of Cleveland, Ohio and Sherry Harris of South Bend, Indiana; one son, Kevin (Mable) Smith of Cleveland, Ohio; six sisters: Tony Reed (her twin) of South Bend, Louise Jackson of Livonia, Michigan, Bernadine (Kenny) Payton of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Katharene (LaDell) McBride of Detroit, Michigan, Doris (Derrick) Willis and Viola Brown; and one brother, Lloyd Douglas, all of South Bend; along with a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Along with her parents, Tommie was also preceded in death by 2 sons: Bernard Ray Smith and Robert "Boog" Lee Jr.; 2 brothers: Don Turner and Kenneth Douglas.

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend. Visitation at 11:00 a.m. and funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
