John Calvin Hargrove, 80, loving Husband, Father and Grandfather, passed away Saturday, June 22nd, 2013 at Vident Inpatient Hospice in Greenville, NC.
John was born October 12, 1932, son of the late John B. and Myrtie Brock Hargrove in Newton Grove, NC. John grew up on the family farm in Newton Grove and was a graduate of Westbrook High School, class of 1950. John is also preceded in death by his sisters Gertie Mae Chandler and Anna Margaret Jackson.
John joined the U.S.A.F. in 1951 and served with honor for 21 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from the Air Force in 1972 having achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. John was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
In 1972 John began work as a computer operator for Branch Banking & Trust in Wilson, NC. John retired from BB&T in 1994 as Vice President of Operations.
John married Betty Rae Tipper of Kings Lynn England in 1957. They were happily married for 56 yrs.
John is survived by his Wife Betty Rae Hargrove of Wilson; son John Daryl Hargrove and wife Deoborah of Wilmington; daughter Denise Hargrove Wilson and husband David of Wilson; grandchildren Holly Morgan of Orlando, FL; Amanda Morgan of Asheville; Katie Wilson of Greenville and Danielle Wilson of Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26th, 2013 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home, Dunn, NC. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service.
Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens, Dunn, NC.
