Irene M Van Deusen was born on Sept 8, 1906 at Ragan, Ne to Leslie Calvin and Ora Frances Salmon Aten. She was baptized in 1918 in Ragan Ne. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hooper, Ne on May 28, 1937. She graduated from high school in Ragan and received her teacher's certificate from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
On Jan 1, 1928 Irene Aten was married to John H Van Deusen in Ragan, Ne. They lived on a farm near Hooper until moving to Fremont in 1969.
Irene taught in several schools, including Logan View in the Hooper/Uehling area and she also taught at the Trinity Lutheran School in Fremont.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, John in January of 1984. Also preceding her in death was a son, 5 brothers and a sister.
She departed this life on Monday, July 10, 2000 at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 2 days.
She is survived by daughter, Donna Plymate, Fremont; 2 sons, James and wife Donna Van Deusen of Knoxville, Tenn, Jack Ward of Los Angeles, Cal; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; 4 sister, Virginia Lightner (husband Leonard), National City, Ca; Betty Olson (husband Bob), Elwood, Ne; Shirley Kelley, Omaha, Ne and Doris Falk (husband Bob), Surprise, Arizona; one brother Wayne and wife Barbara Aten, Goodland, Ks.
Burial will follow the service in Memorial Cemetery.
A Luncheon will be served in the Fellowship Hall following the burial. The family invites you to join them. Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church.
