Joan Elizabeth Baker, 79, of DeWitt, formerly of Adams Ave., Owasco, passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side on Friday, February 14, 2014 at her son's home in DeWitt. Born in Auburn, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Esther VanDuyne Rublee. Joan was an East High School graduate and attended CCBI in Syracuse. She retired in 1987 from Loretto Geriatric in Syracuse where she was employed as a medical transcriptionist. Joan was married to John "Jack" Addison Baker on June 19, 1954 and celebrated 43 years of marriage together. She was content to be a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed attending plays and theatrical events at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack and by her parents. Surviving are two sons, David G. Baker and his wife, Tammy of N. Syracuse and Daryl S. Baker and his wife, Maureen of DeWitt; two grandchildren, Zakary and Zoey; and a lifelong friend, Paula Hickey of Clyde, NY. There are no calling hours and funeral services will be held privately at Langham Funeral Home, LLC in Auburn. Spring burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Fleming. Contributions in Joan's memory may be made to the Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
