Mavis Ahrens Johnson, 94, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Walker, MN. Mavis was born on September 4, 1919 in Minneapolis, MN to Edwin and Helga (Anderson) Michaelson. She attended the Norwegian Christian School and Maplewood Academy. She became a Seventh Day Adventist in childhood and remained dedicated to her faith throughout her life.

She married Roy F. Ahrens, Sr. and they raised six children together. The family has fond memories of summers spent at a cabin on Leech Lake near Uran Bay. In the early 1970's, Mavis and Roy retired to the cabin, and eventually built a home east of Walker in Turtle Lake Township. After 49 years of marriage to Roy, Mavis lost her husband and loving companion. After many years, she subsequently married Walt Johnson, who passed away after 10 years of marriage. Mavis is remembered as a quiet, soft-spoken woman who loved God and loved her family. She was a kind person, who enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and had a passion for growing flowers. Mavis is survived by four daughters, Lana Dahl, Lynnda (Mike) Van Steenwyk, Lynette (Hube) Hubin, and LaVonne (Tom) Blackwelder; one son, Rick (Marlene) Ahrens; one daughter-in-law, Carol Ahrens; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Roy F. Ahrens, Sr., and Walter Johnson; two brothers, Floyd Michaelson and Howard Michaelson; and one son, Roy "Buzz" Ahrens, Jr. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Hackensack Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Kenneth Mayberry officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the spring in the Turtle Lake Cemetery in rural Walker. Funeral arrangements are being made with Dennis Funeral Home of Walker, MN.
