Vernon J. "Red" Richardson, 85, Chanute, Kansas formally of Neodesha, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2014 at Heritage Health Care in Chanute, Kansas. Cremation has taken place. Friends may register on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5:00 -7:00 p.m., at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. A private inurnment with military honors will be held on Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Red was born August 31, 1928 in Sycamore, Kansas to Clem and Amy (Petty) Richardson. Red attended Radical City School and graduated from High School. Following his schooling Red enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in the Korean war, after his Honorable Discharge from the Navy Red was employed by Wycoff Oil Company as a Driller in the Prairies of Oklahoma. Red would meet a young lady named Helen (Jeannie) Pradmore and the couple was later married on May 20, 1955 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The couple later moved to the Independence, Kansas area and then to the Cherryvale Kansas area where Red was employed by Custom Forms until his retirement. Red was an avid gardener and loved being outside. Red was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife Jeannie. Survivors include one son Donald R Richardson, Chanute, Kansas, one grandson Robert Tyler Cheek, Savannah, Missouri, two sisters, Naomi Jackson, Conway Springs, Arkansas, and Veda Larmar, Topeka, Kansas.
