A graveside service for Richard Dean Babb Sr., 88, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery with Dr. Chris Pulliam officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Stewart Family Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Babb passed away Wednesday evening Feb. 19, 2014, after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Amarillo, to Paul J. and Eva Madge Babb.
Mr. Babb graduated from North Dallas High School and obtained his BA degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University. After college he began his career as a sales representative for Bristol Myers where he was a top salesman. He later became a hospital administrator for Glenwood Community Hospital until joining Lifemark Corporation where he became a regional manager over 18 hospitals across the southern U.S. In 1982 he was honored with the Lifemark Achievement Award in Hospital Administration.
Richard was a member of the First Christian Church of Tyler for more than 60 years. He served as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, an elder, elder emeritus, chairman of the board, board of trustees and was chairman of the financial committee. He loved the Church and was instrumental in helping raise the money to build the Christian Life Center.
He served on the Board of Directors at Southside Bank for many years. He served the Tyler community and was generous with his time volunteering for numerous charities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, and his first wife of 41 years, Rosemary Cunningham Babb. He is survived by his present wife, Evelyn Holland Babb, of Tyler; daughter, Dorinda Boyd and husband Peter Boyd, of Horseshoe Bay; son, Richard Babb, of Dallas; stepdaughter, Sheary Holland, of Tyler; granddaughter, Martha Louise Boyd, of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank The Hamptons at Pine Forest, Park Place Nursing Home, Heart to Heart Hospice of East Texas, Francisca Barrieneos, Nellie Marshall and Ernest Rodriguez for their many hours of loving care.
If desired, memorials may be made to either a charity of your choice or First Christian Church of Tyler-Building Fund, 4202 S. Broadway Ave., Tyler, 75701.
Richard will be missed by many. "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. .
