Doctor, discoverer of digitalis.While working in a Birmingham hospital in the 1780's, Withering noticed improvements in a dropsy patient who had been given a herbal remedy. He isolated the particular plant that had caused the improvement and later wrote 'An Account of the Foxglove and its Medical Uses'. He also published work on various studies of fungi.
