Funeral services for Annie Ruth (Buzzard) Holmes will be held on Tuesday, February 25th, 2014 at 2:00 PM at The Reed-Culver Chapel with Reverend Bill Holcomb and Pastor Samuel Battiest of Fife Indian Methodist Church of Muskogee officiating. A Wake Service will be conducted on Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Reed-Culver with visitation all day from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be held at Barber Cemetery. Annie Ruth Buzzard-Holmes was born on September 1st, 1928 in Jay, OK the daughter of Easley Buzzard and Cynthia (Chunestudy) Stayathome. She attended school at Barber School. In 1947, she married Ted Holmes. This union was blessed with 3 sons, 6 daughters, and 34 years of shared memories and happiness, until Ted's passing in 1981. From the time they set up housekeeping, it was Annie's and Ted's rule to open the door to anyone needing a place to sleep or a hot meal. Annie was a florist by trade, and worked at various floral shops including Borvetz-Carson Florists. When she wasn't chasing after her children, Annie liked to sew. She could often be found in the kitchen making a pot of beans and a large pan of fried potatoes. She made a great pot of chicken and dumplings and her biscuits were everybody's favorite. She loved to get together with friends, but loved any chance to join her family for a dinner and talk of the day. The grandchildren were welcomed in the family with the Grandma that thought they could do nothing wrong! She watched their every sporting event, school play, and playground romp with enthusiasm and pride! Quiet evenings at home included TV and especially wrestling, where the players were coached by grandma. Annie was a Christian by faith and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Her health began to fade and Annie rested at the Broadway Manor, but never tired of hearing about her beloved grandchildren. The Lord called Annie home from her labors on Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 in Muskogee, OK with her loved ones gathered close by her side. Annie was 85 years old. She will be missed for her smile, her love and her family strength. Annie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted, one son, Jeffery Holmes and one daughter, Vivian Holmes.
