HUDSON FALLS - First Lady Cynthia Oates, 57, of Deer Run Drive, Hudson Falls, departed to be with the Lord, Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Cynthia was born Dec. 16, 1952, in Manhattan, N.Y., the only daughter of four children, to Cornell (Singleton) Belton and the late Willie Belton.
Cynthia was a product of the New York City public school system. After completing school, she relocated to Newburgh, N.Y., where she worked in the Comptroller's Office there. Later, she accepted the position of bookkeeper for the F. W. Woolworth Corporation, where she worked until the company closed. She then worked for the Bon Ton Corporation, both in Newburgh and Queensbury, as a sales associate, until she was unable to work.
Cynthia loved helping people, working with them, and sharing the Joy of the Lord with others. She also enjoyed gardening, interior decorating and shopping for antiques.
On Feb. 14, 1979, Cynthia and the now Rev. Leonard A. Oates were united in holy matrimony and have been on their honeymoon for the last 31 years.
Cynthia became a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in 1986, under the leadership of the late Rev. Gordon E. Henderson, pastor.
In October of 2006, she accompanied her husband as he accepted the call to become the Pastor of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church of Glens Falls, becoming the First Lady, where she faithfully worked and supported her husband and the ministry of the church.
Cynthia was predeceased by her father, Willie Belton, her mother-in-law, Evator Felder, and a brother-in-law, George Oates.
Interment will follow at Bay Street Cemetery, Bay Street, Glens Falls.
