On December 27, 1958 he married his wife of 55 years, Charolette Williams. Two sons, Dick and Doug, were born to this union.
Mike graduated from Lucas High School in 1956. After high school Mike had several odd jobs until 1959 when he went to barber school in Des Moines, Iowa. After his graduation he moved to Corydon and worked for Raymond Rissler and then moved and bought his first barber business in the basement of Corydon State Bank. After the Corydon State Bank fire he moved his shop to the Poston Building and later in 1997 he moved his barbershop to his home where he finished out his 52 year barbering career.
In 1944 he was baptized in the Community of Christ Church.
He is survived by his wife Charolette Williams Rouse; sons Dick Rouse and his wife Cheryl of Corydon, and Doug Rouse and wife Dee of Lamoni; four granddaughters Ashley Rouse Miller, Alisha Rouse, Emily Rouse and Lydia Rouse; three great granddaughters Cadi Miller, Cassi Miller and Peyton Kanney. Other survivors include his brother John Rouse of Chariton, Iowa, brothers-in-law Clifford Gillman, Chariton, Iowa and Bill Williams, Sacramento, California; sister-in-law Louise Smith of Corydon; nieces Glenna Fleming, Kelli and McKenna Dix all of Jacksonville, Florida, Janet Rouse, Julie Stansbery Michael Goben both of Chariton, Sandy Lane, Bondurant, Jeri Holmes, Lucas; and nephews George Gillman of Alaska and Jon and Bob Gillman of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Mabel Rouse; sister Barbara Gillman; sisters-in-law Beth Rouse and Mary Foley; nephew John Douglas Rouse and brothers-in-law Orlie Williams, Kenneth McCullough, and Glen Smith.
Mike always enjoyed visiting with his customers. He never complained about going to work until his illness got too bad at the end. Even when his disease got at the worse he never complained about it and always said that he had it good and there were people worse off than him. He enjoyed being around his family and friends until the very end
