Bill was born in Arkansas but wanted to see the world. He would jump the rails and ride around the country, returning home only to visit and leave again. During his lifetime he lived in California, New Jersey, Korea, Iraq, Brazil, Mexico, the South Pacific, the Orient, Marianas, and the Philippine Islands. At the time of his death he could speak, read and write English, Spanish and Portugese.

He owned a construction company in California with his father, was a Civil Engineer by trade and was licensed as an architect in Aug 1966.

In 1971, he received his 33rd Degree Mason.

He married five times, to Pearl, Margaret Nellie Gray, Helen, Elisabeth Spens and Sodja Ali. He had two sons with Margaret; Billy and Charles and one with Sodja, Richard.
