Michael L. Norwood, 43, of Myrtle Beach formerly of Darlington passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2 PM in Trinity United Methodist Church. A private burial will follow in the Florence National Cemetery at a later time, directed by Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. Michael was born in Darlington, SC. He graduated with the class of 1988 from St. John's High School. He later graduated from Florence Darlington Technical College with a welding degree. Michael loved sports and listening to music. He was an avid gardener and landscaper and was employed at one time with Progress Energy, Aluminum Ladder, and Hatchell Landscaping. Michael was a member of the Charlie Battery 3rd 178 Field Artillery Unit out of Hartsville in the United States Army National Guard where he was ranked as a E4 Specialist. He served as a Battery Guidon Bearer with his unit and served in Iraq. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Surviving are his father, Mike Norwood of Darlington; his mother and step father, Betty Hubbard Gilbert and Clifton L. Gilbert of Hartsville; his son, Michael Banxton Norwood of Hartsville; his sister, Kelly Norwood Raines and her husband, Charlie; and their son, Andrew Raines all of Florence; his brother, Clifton Chase Gilbert of Hartsville; his friend Michelle Furr of Myrtle Beach; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ray and Beatrice Waddell Norwood; and by his maternal grandparents, Tyson H. Hubbard, Sr. and Frances Gardner Hubbard.
