BAKER, Gertrude age 97, of Englewood Manor, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014. She was born December 31, 1916 in Hartselle, Alabama, daughter of the late William & Bessie (Swan) Tedford. Gertrude moved to Harlan, Kentucky at age two. She grew up in Harlan and started her nursing career. Gertrude moved to Vandalia and worked for Dr. Milton Owen and eventually retired from the Franklin Nursing Home. She taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church Vandalia for several years and was loved by the many church families and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Baker; two sisters and three brothers, Gertrude is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret & Ron Williams of Dayton; granddaughter, Patty Highlander (Don); grandson, Ron Williams Jr. (Terry); great-grandchildren, Ryan Highlander (Sarah Morgenstern fiancée), Justin Highlander (Jenni), Tyler Highlander and Sarah Highlander, Shawn Solarik (Trish), Kelly Chinn (Keith), Kendra Potts (Brendon), great-great-grandchildren, Silas Solarik, Makenzie Chinn, Austin and Kaleigh Potts and a host of longtime friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, February 22 at First Baptist Church, 140 Elva Ct., Vandalia with Mr. John Seagraves officiating. Burial will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 am until time of service. The family would like to thank the Englewood Manor Nursing home for the wonderful and compassionate care they have provided to Gertrude and to her daughter & son-in-law. You have been a true blessing to the family.
