Farm Leader Wishop Dies At Harrison
Harrison - Clarence Halley Wishop, 70, rte. 1, Rockton, suffered a fatal heart attack Monday afternoon.
Mr. Wishop was a prominent Harrison township farmer active in public affairs. He served 16 years as a Harrison township supervisor before retiring in 1959. He was a past mamber and chairman of the Winnebago county board of supervisors. His father, John H. Wishop, had served as Harrison supervisor for 30 years and was board chairman in 1908.
Mr. Wishop had served as president of the Winnebago county Farm Bureau and the Winnebago-Boone County Livestock Feeders association.
He lived all his life on a farm pioneered by his grandfather, William R. Halley, in 1838. Halley was the first tailor in Winnebago county. A Scottish immigrant, Halley was a settler when Stephen Mack had his trading post at Macktown.
Mr. Wishop retired from farming in 1939.
He was born in Harrison on July 12, 1891. He married Wilma Wilson on Dec. 31, 1912. She survives him.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer central chapel, Beloit, the Rev. Dean Lang officiating. Burial will be in Owen Center cemetery.
