Larry Dean “Tony” Arrowsmith was born October 18, 1937 to Floyd E. and Marcella M. (Grandstaff) Arrowsmith at Stuart, Nebraska. His early years were spent on the family ranch south of Newport, and they moved to Bassett in 1948.

Tony attended rural school south of Newport and Bassett Grade Schools. He graduated from Rock County High School in 1955. Tony attended Colorado A&M in Fort Collins, Colorado for one year, returning to join the family ranch operation.

Tony entered into the military service in September 1961 and was discharged in June of 1963. His time was spent at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Fort Lewis, Washington. Tony once again returned to the ranch operation.

Tony married Judy Christensen on September 15, 1963 at the United Methodist Church in Newport. They moved to the Arrowsmith Carns Ranch on the Niobrara River north of Bassett. In 1991, they moved to the Arrowsmith Hay Camp Ranch. Two sons were born to this union: Anthony “Tony” born on November 3, 1964, and Bradley was born on October 11, 1966.

Tony loved the ranch, the grey hounds, Hereford cattle and, in later years, Red Angus Cattle. He enjoyed his family and his many friends.

Tony died on August 25, 2008 at the hospital in Gregory, South Dakota, 14 months after learning he had cancer.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wanda.
