Shirley Mae Markling, a fifteen-year resident of Henderson, Nevada, passed away on February 15, 2014.

She was born April 9, 1927 in Logan, Utah to Ira B. and Mae Ames.

She grew up in Ogden, Utah; Santa Maria, California; and for many years she and Paul lived in Alpine and Salt Lake City. It was in Santa Maria that she met the love of her life, Paul Donald Markling, and they were married on July 12, 1947.

Shirley was a loving wife and mother and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many church positions. Shirley loved family get-togethers and especially enjoyed playing games with friends or family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved Paul and her brother, Darrell Ames. She is survived by her brothers, Boyd (Dottie) Ames and Blaine (Beverly) Ames, both of Ogden, Utah; sons, Jerry (Dory) Markling and Jeff Markling; daughters, Michelle (Tom) MacHale and Jackie (Ron) Brey; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Nevada Community Hospice and the entire staff of the Pacifica Cottages, who treated her with compassion, love, and respect.

A visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Boulevard, Ogden, followed by interment in the Ogden City Cemetery.
