Paul Anthony Schoen, lifelong resident of Hastings, died Dec. 18, 2007, at Regina Medical Center. He was 69 years old.

He was born March 13, 1938, in Hastings. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1956. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for seven years as a medic on active and reserve duty. He married Charlotte Benjamin, his high school love, in 1963. He received an accounting degree from Rasmussen School of Business. After working at Gould Corporation for several years, he began working as controller at Colder Products Corporation in 1984. He retired in 2004.

Paul is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughters, Pam (Dan) Hoeffel of Woodbury, LeAnne (Mike) Schumacher of Wayzata, and Tara (Jeff) Hubbart of Hastings; nine grandchildren, Max, Sam, Kate, Jane Hoeffel, Megan, Ben, and Ellie Schumacher, Hannah, and Lauren Hubbart; and brother, Peter (Elizabeth) Schoen of Hastings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus and Dorothy (Shingledecker) Schoen; his father-in-law, Clinton Benjamin; and his dear friend and brother-in-law, Roy Dahl.

Paul was an avid gardener with interests in the theater and travel. He had a passion for life and family. He had a wry smile and quick wit. He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten by those whose lives he touched.

A memorial service was held Dec. 21, 2007 at Our Saviour?s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hastings. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings. Military honors were provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210.

Memorials are preferred to the Hastings Ministerial Association or charity of choice.
