Maudie Lee Bates was born on January 26, 1918, in Benton, Arkansas, the fourth of five children. Her father, Frederick Tracy Bates, was born 24 September 1889 in Pine Bluff, Jefferson, Arkansas. On 18 August 1907, Frederick married Maudie's mother, Mary May Ellen Dean, who was born in April of i890, also in Arkansas. Maudie married Arlin Louis Lambert Sr. They had one child, a daughter named Judith Fern, in 1941. Maudie married George Henry Forsythe on August 11, 1948, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She died on November 17, 2006, in West Memphis, Arkansas, at the age of 88.
