Helen Veronica "Vera" (Johnson) O'Connor, aged 91, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Beacon Place Hospice, Greensboro NC.

Vera, as she was known by most, Helen by some, was born in Queens, NY on August 16, 1922 to the late John Johnson and Nellie (Mahoney) Johnson. She was married to Daniel B. O'Connor for sixty-eight years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her family, taking care of others, cooking, sewing, crocheting and knitting. Vera's faith was of the utmost importance and gave her strength daily and throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Daniel B. O'Connor, Jr., her brother John C. Johnson and wife Ruth, dear niece Judith Ann (Johnson) Kielbasa. Also, preceeded in death by childhood friends and brother-in-law, George (Gip) Brucia and wife Betty, Goddaughter and niece, Jane Brucia and brother-in-law Donald Gassert.

Vera is survived by her loving husband Daniel (Brugha); son Kevin O'Connor (Lynn); grandsons, Shaun, Matthew and Daniel James; and two great-granddaughters, Ava Claire O'Connor and Chrystelle White. Also surviving are grandnieces, Dawn and Donna Kielbasa and grandnephew Robert Kielbasa (Jessica).

She is also survived by dear close friends Danny and Kathleen Rubino along with friends Josephine, Margret, Mary and her surviving sister-in-law Ann O'Connor Gassert; and many many loving nieces and nephews. She is now with many old friends and family in heaven.

The family would like to thank Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro NC, Neuroscience Dept., N-Tower 4 and Beacon Place Hospice, also of Greensboro, for their compassionate care.

Services held at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, Greensboro, NC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Greensboro, with Father Eric Kowalski officiating. Interment at Salisbury National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beacon Place, Greensboro, NC in Helen's memory.
