The news of the death of Leonder L. Todd came as a surprise to our citizens Saturday morning as it was not known that he was ill. He had been visiting in the country several days and was taken sick Friday. Dr. Cullum was sent for and upon his return to town Mr. Todd asked permission to accompany him. On arriving in town he seemed reluctant to go to his rooms and asked to remain with the doctor. A bed was furnished him downstairs, Dr. and Mrs. Cullum occupying the rooms above. Abount 11:30 Dr. and Mrs. came home from a meeting of the O. E. S. and the doctor talked with Mr. Todd, who was up. Mr. Todd procured a drink, placing the cup of water beside his bed. The Dr. and Mrs. Cullum had just retired when they heard Mr. Todd fall and upon rushing down stairs found him struggling with a stroke of apoplexy. Help was called but death came immediately.
Leonder L. Todd was born in Lawrance county, Indiana, October 21, 1857. He married Martha J. Campbell, of Valley Falls, Kansas, in February 1862, and two daughters were born to this union, both growing to womanhood. His wife died in August, 1876, and one daughter, Mrs. Dalton, died in 1904. The other daughter is residing in the state of Washington.
Mr. Todd moved to Kansas in 1857 and from thence came to Oklahoma and secured a claim ten miles southwest of town in the memorable run of April 1889 and has resided in or near Hennessey since. He was quiet, reticient, and very gentlemanly in bearing, winning respect and esteem from his fellow men. He had been a member of the M. E. church since the age of sixteen. He was a member of the Seven Star I.O.O.F. No 90, who immediately took charge of the body. Services were held from the M. E. church, and were conducted by Rev. J. H. Hubbard, Monday afternoon October 17, 1910, at 2:00 o'clock, and remains entered in city cemetery. One daughter, nine grandchildren, four brothers, and three sisters survive deceased.

From The Hennessey Clipper (Hennessey, Okla.), Vol. 21, No. 23, Thursday, October 20, 1910.

[The obituary says he was born in 1857, but census records place his birth about 1843.]
