John Lewis was born in 1815 in Georgia, his father, John, was 25 and his mother, Elizabeth (Morgan), was 17. He married Elizabeth Cawley on May 18, 1836 in Talbot County, Georgia. They had 10 children in 19 years. He died in January 1882 at the age of 67 in the community of Price, Haralson, Georgia, USA, and was buried in Bremen, Georgia in the family cemetery, Piney Woods.* Their children were:

John's Parents: John Benjamin and Elizabeth (Morgan) Lewis, buried in the Holcombe Family Cemetery, located in wooded area of a pasture off of Nix Road in Haralson County, Georgia. John and Elizabeth were born and married in Virginia. Their daughter Nancy married Ruben Holcombe and it is believed this is the reason they were buried there.
