Mary Ann Coit Doggett passed away at her home in Houston. Mary Ann was the daughter of Henry Campbell Coit and Winnie Warren Coit. She was born in Dallas, TX. She grew up in Richardson, TX, north Dallas, and graduated from Richardson High School in 1951. She then enrolled at Baylor University in Waco, TX and graduated in 1955. Like her ancestors before her, Mary Ann had a pioneer's spirit, flying airplanes, studying abroad in Mexico, fishing, and hunting bear-in the 1950's even.
After Baylor, Mary Ann moved to Houston and worked as a laboratory technician at Hermann Hospital until she married Dr. Jerry Lloyd Doggett. Mary Ann and Jerry raised four children and served God and their community through their long-time commitment to South Main Baptist Church. She was one of the first female deacons of the church. In her extra time she volunteered with South Main Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, and facilitated housing for people visiting Houston for medical treatment. She was a faithful member of her Sunday School class until health problems prevented her attendance. Mary Ann was a patron of the Houston Grand Opera for many years. Always the animal lover, she was devoted to her beloved Springer Spaniels-Juneau, Jasper, and the late Samantha.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by Jerry, her husband of 54 years, in May of 2012. She is survived by her children: Deborah Doggett Swift and Jim Swift of Flagstaff, AZ, John and Janeen Vilven Doggett of Albuquerque, NM, Jim Doggett of Galveston, and David and Mary Belan Doggett of San Antonio. She is survived by four grandchildren: Michael, Kathy, and Charity Swift, and Mary Margaret Doggett. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews-Angela Andrews Fabry, Wendy Coit Griessen, Richard Andrews, Bruce Coit, and Michael Coit-and numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins, and uncountable friends. She and her family are greatly indebted to the wonderful caregivers who were her constant companions for the last several years.
