Jim “Cannonball” Butler

Professional Football Player. For eight seasons (1965 to 1972), he played at the running back position in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons and St. Louis Cardinals. After attending Carver High School in Florida, he played collegiate football at Edward Waters College (Florida). Selected by Pittsburgh during the 14th round of the 1965 NFL Draft, Butler totaled 97 regular season games. In 1969, he produced a career-high 655 rushing yards with 3 touchdowns and earned Pro-Bowl honors. After retiring from football, he worked for a school system and served as a coach for his former high school football team. He died of complications from dementia.
