ADA — Funeral services for Betty Petty, 79, Ada, are 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at Trinity Baptist Church in Ada, officiated by Dr. Rusty Fuller. Assisting are the Revs. David Gray and Don Sayre. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada.
Viewing is from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home, Ada.
Mrs. Petty died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at her residence in Ada. She was born May 19, 1932, in Oklahoma City to Gus and Lora Hearn Bohot.
Mrs. Petty spent most of her childhood with her seven brothers and four sisters in Byers, Texas. She married Bill Petty on May 11, 1950, in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1960 they moved to Holtville, Calif., and lived there until their retirement in 1998 and then moved to Ada. Both became active members of Trinity Baptist Church. They were married 53 years before his death in 2003.
Mrs. Petty was a homemaker and spent many years teaching children's Sunday School at First Southern Baptist Church in Holtville, Calif.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Larry Faerman, Ada, and daughter, Linda Petty Southerland and Wayne Southerland, Half Moon Bay, Calif.; grandchildren, Lisa Haro and husband Marcus of Anaheim Hills, Calif., Lucus Derhammer and wife Nicole of San Jose, Calif., and Levi Derhammer of El Granada, Calif.; a sister, Rosalie Petty, Ada; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brianna, and Brooke Derhammer of San Jose, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Petty; her parents, Gus and Lora Bohot; seven brothers, and three sisters.
Bearers are her two grandsons, Lucus and Levi Derhammer; and nephews, Bill Anderson, Bobby Bohot, Paul Clark and Ronnie Petty.
Honorary bearers are members of Trinity Baptist Church Fellowship Sunday School Class of Ada.
The family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Baptist Fellowship Sunday School Class of Ada to continue the ministry of spreading God’s love.
