David H. Sewell age 62 of Maryville went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, February 16, 2014. As with every Sunday morning, David was getting ready to go to church, and teach his Sunday school class, but God had other plans. If you are a child of God, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." David was a wonderful, generous Christian man who had touched the lives of many, many folks around him. David was a member of Dotson Memorial Baptist Church where he had attended and taught Sunday school for 20 years. He had served on many committees over the years and loved playing music there. After 30 years of service, he retired from the Social Security Administration in Knoxville as the Assistant District Manager. David loved the Lord, his family, his friends, fast muscle cars (especially red GTO's), Ducati motorcycles, guns, and music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ruth Sewell.

David was a devoted husband to his wife of over 22 years, Becky Cardin Sewell. He also leaves behind his children, Justin Sewell, Chris and wife Kirsten Sewell, daughter April and husband George Hou and Dr. J. Michael Frye and wife Dr. Karen Zimowski Frye. Grandchildren include Lex Hou, Tristan Sewell, and Max Sewell. These grandchildren brought so much joy into David's life. He is also survived by his brothers Steve and wife Janet Sewell and Lane and wife Debbie Sewell, along with nieces and nephews. David also leaves behind many, many close friends who were like brothers to him.

Receiving friends will be Wednesday, February 19 from 4:00-7:00 pm. at Dotson Memorial Baptist Church. A service celebrating David's life and faith will follow at 7:00 pm.

A graveside service will be Thursday at 11:00 am at Williamson Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Procession begins promptly at 10:15 am at Smith's Funeral Service. David has had a lifelong love of music. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in memory of David to Dotson Memorial Baptist Church, designated to the Music Ministry. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithLifeandLegacy.com.
