Ira J. Fox was in the Civil War, Co. K, 95th Regiment, Ohio Infantry. He was mustered in as a private on 12 August, 1862. Then was appointed to Corporal on 8 April, 1863. He died on 5 July, 1863 from disease on board the floating hospital steamer, Crescent City.
The Crescent City was 688 ton steamer and was constructed in Cincinnati in 1854; the veteran side-wheeled served extensively on the New Orleans-St.Louis route prior to the war and as a troop transport for the USQMD(United States Quarter Master Department). Steamers were converted as floating hospitals and served as part of the Western Sanitary Commission hospital fleet.
