Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be at Madison Square Cemetery near Taylor, Nebraska. Steve Howard will speak at the service. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Gale was born December 17, 1938 in Loup County, Nebraska to Jack and Agnes (Kamery) Howard. While in school he followed the horse racing and was a jockey. After graduating from Sargent High School he entered the United States Air Force on December 28, 1956. He spent a year in Japan and was honorably discharged on July 5, 1960.
Gale married Elizabeth McCaslin in 1960. To this union three children were born. They were later divorced. Later in life he married Karen O'Dell.
Gale was a caregiver to his mother before her death. He was a trucker and a jack of all trades. His passion was horses and horse racing and his family. He also enjoyed all of the outdoors and learning the trees.
Gale is survived by three children; Jeff and Cheryl Howard of Bruno, Nebraska, Jackie and Steve Amos of Lincoln, Nebraska and Jerry and Tammy Howard of Omaha, Nebraska. Six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A brother Jerry Howard of Lyons, Nebraska and a sister, Elaine Zurek of Omaha, Nebraska.
Gale was preceded in death by his parents. A brother, Eldon Howard, a brother-in-law, Dennis Zurek and a nephew Bruce Zurek.
