Died whilst Prisoner of War - Age: 19
Son of Benjamin J. and Rachel Rigney, of Point McLeay, South Australia. His brother Cyril Spurgeon Rigney also fell.
Rufus Gordon Rigney lied on his enlistment papers; he was still only 16 when he left for war. He was one of many Ngarrindjeri men who enlisted in the Great War.
This photograph, taken while Rufus was on embarkation leave in 1916, was the last time his sister Rose would see her brother.
Rufus was wounded at Passchendaele, and died of his wounds four days later in a German Field Hospital. He was just 17 years old.
