In 1955 he graduated from Captain Jack High School in Mount Union. He graduated from Shippensburg University and later did post graduate work at Penn State University.
He was an educator most of his life and advanced to administration later. He retired in 1989. He is remember by this writer as a business teacher in the Shippensburg School district, who was a fair man who encouraged his students. He also worked in the Chambersburg and Cumberland Valley School Districts.
He participated in multiple organizations during his lifetime.
He was married to Joan L. Norris for over 58 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by sons Samuel L., Patrick W., and daughter Megan K. Poe. Grandchildren surviving are Daysha, Anthony, Nichole, Makayla, J.J., Jessica, D.J., Cheryl and Bear. There were also nine great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brothers Coyle and Herman and sisters Thelma and Mary Price.
