James Cecil "Jake" Carter, Jr., 79, passed away February 16, 2014. Mr. Carter was born June 29, 1934 to the late, James Cecil Carter Sr. and Mattie Thompson Carter. He was a 1952 graduate of Millington Central High School; retired from South Central Bell (AT&T) after 27 years; and was well known in the community as owner of Jake's Firework World for 50 years and Jakes Outpost. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Carol Carter; sons, J.C. Carter III, Charley Carter, Chelius H. Carter; daughters, Cecil Carter Owen, Kelly Carter Vandervoort, Cheryl Tay Lachance; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at a catered reception Thursday, February 20 from 12:30 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. at the Millington Chapel, with interment to follow in Bethuel Cemetery.
