Karen Ruth Hughes Jacobs, 65, of Rogersville, died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014, in Donnell House, Washington, following a short illness.

She was born Wednesday, April 14, 1948, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Hansel C. Hughes and Betty Jane Shoup Hughes.

Mrs. Jacobs attended Rogersville United Methodist Church. While growing up, she was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church at Ruff Creek, where she was active in youth group and Bible school, and was a Sunday school teacher.

She studied drafting and had worked for the Greene County Assessment Office, Elder Care and as a legal secretary for Thompson and Bailey, attorneys of law.

She enjoyed reading, doing craft work, gardening and playing Sudoku. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, John L. Jacobs, whom she married January 21, 1973; a son, Michael J. Jacobs of Rogersville; two grandchildren, Tyllor and Cimberlea, both of Carmichaels; a sister, Janet L. Tucker of Ruff Creek; two nieces, Sherri Tucker (Chris) Clark and Nicole M. Tucker, both of Ruff Creek; and a great-nephew, Christian Julien Jackson Clark.

At the request of the deceased, visitation and services will be private with the Rev. Bruce Judy officiating. Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, are in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville. The family suggest donations be made to American Cancer Society, PA. Division Inc., Southwest Region, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA. 15205-4620.
