The Gilstrap Family Cemetery is on a private, rural, land locked parcel in Yuma County, Colorado, therefore; permission is needed from the owners of an adjacent parcel as well as the out-of-state owner of the private cemetery in order to enter both properties. Oral permission to cross the adjacent property was granted by the owner's son on 24 Jan 2014 and written permission to enter and photograph the Gilstrap Family Cemetery was granted by the owner on 4 Feb 2014. The cemetery boundary, protected by a 3' tall, twisted wire, ornamental fence is a rectangle measuring approximately 40' X 58', running north/south. The original gate must have been located near the southwest corner along the south side and is lying, partially buried, on the ground. There are 13 headstones/markers located within. The two stones that sat upon bases have toppled and are propped up against their bases inscriptions partially buried. The stones are in good condition considering the pressures they have been subjected to over the last 120 odd years (high altitude sun, burrowing creatures, grazing cattle and wild animals, extreme wind & freeze/thaw and the blowing dirt & sand of the dust bowl era). 2/18/2014
