Private Hugh Hale, a foundry man from West Chester; served as a private in the 9th Pennsylvania Volunteers for 3 mos.; and then enlisted at age 28 on Oct 15, 1861, for 3 yrs.; in Company F, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded, having his ankle dislocated, in the action at James Island, S. C, on June 10, 1862. He was discharged from Camp Discharge, at Philadelphia on Oct. 15, 1864, at the expiration of his term.
