Funeral services for Daniel "Dan" J. Houston, 84, of Covington will be Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church with Reverend Christopher Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Covington Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home, Enid.
Daniel was born on November 8, 1929 in Enid, Oklahoma to Edward and Mabel Townsend Houston and died on February 16, 2014 in Enid.
He graduated from Pioneer High School in 1947. Daniel served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 until 1950. On July 12, 1954, he married Yvonne Schulz and they made their home on the farm. They raised cattle and farmed in the Covington, Douglas and Bison areas. Dan was a roughneck on oil rigs in the late 1960s and 1970s. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder. Dan served on the Covington-Douglas School Board and a member of the Logan County Water Board.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne in May 1994 and his parents.
He is survived by his children, Kandy and John Trojan, Bison, Danny and Tommie Houston, Covington, Shirley Southwick, Fairmont; four grandchildren and their spouses, Lindsey and Ryan Knight, Katie and Austin Rhodes, Scott and Peggy Southwick, Kris and Lanita Southwick; eight great grandchildren; brother, Gene Houston, Bison; other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to Tri County Senior Citizens or St. John's Lutheran Church.
