Regina, or "Gina" as her family and friends lovingly refer to her, was bom on January 23,1966 at 8:30 P.M. on a cool Sunday night in the City of Fort Lauderdale. She was the twin sister of Reggie Osgood and they were the last of 6 children bom to Barbara Osgood and John Henry.
Gina is a proud Alumni of Dillard High School, Class of 1984. Not only was Gina a good student, she was a good athlete, playing on the school's volleyball and basketball teams.
After graduating from Dillard High School, Gina received a basketball scholarship to Bethune - Cookman College (University) in Daytona Beach, FL. Two years later, Gina got homesick and wanted to be closer to her family so she returned and registered at Florida Memorial College (University), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education. Although Gina was a graduate of Florida Memorial College, she forever proclaimed that she was a "Wildcat", referring to the Bethune - Cookman College mascot. She has attended every Classic since 1984. Gina began substitute teaching in Broward County Public Schools in the late 1980's, as she was a full - time employee with the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services. In 1990, Gina began to teach physical education in the Broward County Public School system. She coached girls and boys basketball and was the Athletic Director at Indian Ridge Middle School and Arthur Ashe Middle School, in Fort Lauderdale. Her dedication to serving children was evident in everything that she did.
After a long courtship, Regina married the love of her life Mr. Stanley Burns in 1993. Gina and Stan were inseparable, as they share the same interests in sports, movies, books, and family. Together, they would travel to the Classic each year to cheer on the Wildcats. Gina gave generously to each organization that asked for her support. Gina was a faithful member of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church and served in the Girls Enrichment Ministry for Success (GEMS), doing what she loved best, working with young ladies. She was a member of the Gilda's House, a cancer support group and gave generously to their cause. Gina, herself, was diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and never gave up her hope to hve and her love of life. Even during her illness, she found the strength to enjoy life, spend time with family, and "dance". She was lively and energetic up to the very end. She never spoke of sadness, but instead, would say, "Let's live. Let's play and let's have fun!". Gina never wanted to see sad faces around her and expressed her love for God to everyone each day.
Gina loved family and was very supportive in all that we did. Gina was our biggest cheerleader. She was extremely proud of each of her family members and would tell us that every chance she got. In her last days, Gina told us, "Don't mourn me, but love me and rejoice with me. I will see each of you in heaven.". Gina expressed her love for God, even as she was departing this Earth.
